“HILLBROOK” Sign Fix Delayed by Pipe Work

In January 2025, a truck lost control on snowy Little River Turnpike and slid into the HILLBROOK monument sign. Placed there about 1955 by the original developer of the neighborhood, the brick and concrete monument was destroyed. Replacement of the sign has been blocked by the Virginia Department of Transportation, which controls the property, until sidewalk construction and water pipe rerouting is completed in 2027 (see Community Notice: Replacement of Utility Pipes Underway).

It is possible that the monument cannot be rebuilt at the same exact location on the site. There is discussion with VDOT about allowing the placement of a temporary wood sign. Meanwhile, HTOCA is looking for volunteers with a pick-up truck to help clean up the site. Call Mark Crawford at 703-945-9979 if you want to help.
