Leaf and yard waste pickup timelines set

Gravity shows no mercy. Like it or not, millions of leaves are floating to the ground, covering lawns and driveways in Hillbrook-Tall Oaks. Get out your rakes, blowers and tarps to move leaves to the edge of your yards near the street.

The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) will begin leaf vacuum service in Hillbrook-Tall Oaks and other Mason District neighborhoods on or about October 31. Our neighborhood (collection district 8A) gets a total of three leaf collections each year, a service paid for by an annual fee that residents pay through their property tax bill.

Residents will be informed of 2nd and 3rd round vacuum truck leaf collection dates in the weeks ahead, after county crews assess their progress (see “Subscribe to Vacuum Leaf Collection Email Updates” at Vacuum Leaf Announcements for Area). DPWES halts 2026 collection of general yard wastes on December 24, 2026. Service resumes in the spring.
