FCPS Approves New Advanced Academic Center at Poe Middle School

Information Meetings: October 22 & 28 | 6:30 p.m. | Poe Middle School Library

ANNANDALE, Va. — On September 25, the Fairfax County Public School Board approved plans to establish an Advanced Academic Center (AAC) at Poe Middle School, marking the first middle school in the Annandale High School pyramid to offer advanced academic services.

Annandale is part of FCPS Region 6, which also includes the Hayfield and Lewis pyramids. Until now, Region 6 was the only area in Fairfax County without a middle school AAC. Currently, sixth-grade students pursuing advanced academics must transfer to Canterbury Woods Elementary School for sixth grade and then move again to Frost Middle School the following year. The new center at Poe Middle School will allow students to remain in their home middle school while accessing advanced academic programming.

Community members are invited to learn more and ask questions at two upcoming meetings:

  • Tuesday, October 22 | 6:30 p.m.
  • Monday, October 28 | 6:30 p.m.

Both meetings will be held in the Poe Middle School Library.

This new program represents an exciting step for advanced academic opportunities in our community.
